Trauma & Attachment Therapy
Polyvagal Trauma Therapy for adults carrying complex and relational trauma
Trauma and Attachment
Trauma is a shock or surprise to the nervous system that keeps it from fully processing an experience. It can be a single event, or years of them. I treat C-PTSD, relational, developmental, and acute trauma, and the attachment wounds that so often sit underneath. My work also includes veterans and first responders, who I've supported through complex and operational trauma for the past seven years. I am primarily a polyvagal therapist, which means I work first with the nervous system, where attachment trauma actually lives. Improving how you attach begins with how you connect to your own nervous system. Do you listen to it? Do you regard it with love? Do you offer it comfort and reassurance? Almost none of us were taught how. That is where we start.
How I Work
From the first session I am listening for how your nervous system is presenting, and using your emotional and somatic awareness to engage it consciously. During intake I use my own attachment questions to help you learn your attachment style. From there I draw on parts work from IFS and DNMS, attachment-oriented polyvagal theory, guided imagery, and somatic awareness to help you reach the inner child and the nervous system where attachment trauma is held. I use CBT secondarily. Sessions are 55 minutes, online across California. The work often includes:
Learning your attachment style and what shaped it
Working directly with the nervous system through polyvagal-informed care
Using parts work to reach and support the inner child
Adding EMDR, Brainspotting, or guided imagery where deeper processing helps
Types of Trauma
Complex trauma (C-PTSD)
The lasting weight of trauma that repeated over time
Developmental trauma
Early experiences that shaped the nervous system as it formed
Relational trauma
Wounds that happened in relationship and still echo in them
Operational and service trauma
The weight carried from military or first-responder work
Acute trauma
A single shock the nervous system could not fully process
Attachment wounds
Early patterns still shaping how you connect and feel safe
Nervous-system dysregulation
Living in fight, flight, or shutdown more than feels bearable
Trauma tied to duty or mission
When the harder parts of the job leave a lasting mark
